Description
This short text is a description of the traditional way that corn is cultivated in the Tepehuan region. It serves as a record of a cultural practice that has started to be replaced by more modern methods. The text was narrated in the 1970's by a resident of Santa María Ocotán. The transcription, which is a slightly edited version of the original narration, was made by another resident of Santa María soon after it was recorded.
The form of presentation is called “glossed text,” because it includes both literal translations of every word and morpheme and free translations of every sentence. The free translations are summarized in paragraph form at the end.
