  • Description

This is a funny Tepehuan story, part of the current generation's contribution to their traditional oral literature. The text was narrated in the 1990's by a resident of Los Gavilanes, a town on the eastern edge of the Santa María Ocotán community. It was transcribed shortly thereafter by the author and included in an anthology of similar stories.

The form of presentation is called “glossed text,” because it includes both literal translations of every word and morpheme and free translations of every sentence. The free translations are summarized in paragraph form at the end.
