Summary
	The author discusses ways in which language learners can instruct themselves. She considers issues such as individual preparation for language learning, materials for self-instruction, needs analysis and methods of self-assessment, as well as reasons why self-instruction may be helpful or necessary.

Evaluation
	Although the assumption is that learners will be learning language for which there are lots of materials and resources available, as well as fluent speakers of the language who could serve as consultants, many of the issues raised in the book are pertinent to anyone learning a language independently.
