Summary
	A community-based approach to language learning, based on the language-learning cycle first proposed by Larson and Smalley 1984 in Becoming Bilingual. Contains an introduction, philosophy of learning through involvement, extensive suggestions for lesson plans for four stages of learning.

Evaluation

Larson has excellent insights into the process by which a language learner needs to become an acceptable outsider in the language community. Unfortunately he uses very idiosyncratic terminology, which is hard to keep track of. Also, he uses only the language learning cycle methodology. For readers willing to wade through the terminology, this can be a useful resource for developing sociolinguistic and interactional competence.
