Stage 1 guidelines for writing: Orthography

 

Objectives
 

Here are some orthography objectives for Stage 1 for writing:

 
  • To make all the letters in an alphabetic or syllabary system, and 50-100 of the more frequent characters in a character system

    Note:

    If there is an alternate Romanized script for a character system (such as Pinyin for Chinese), learn it.

  • To start learning, if the spelling system is irregular, how to spell the highest frequency words
Strategies
 

Here are some orthography strategies for Stage 1 guidelines for writing:

 
  • Practice

    After you have practiced reading names of objects or descriptions of pictures, cover up the writing and try to label them yourself. Do some Listening or Reading comprehension techniques, try writing out the words.

  • Selective attention

    Do learning activities that require written answers and pay attention to spelling.
