A brief survey of language learning methods

In their book, Approaches and methods in language teaching, Richard and Rodgers analyze a number of currently-used or recently-used language learning methods, describing them in terms of the following elements:

• the approach to the theory of language and language learning behind them
• the design they use(specification of course objectives and syllabus, types of activities, learner roles), and
• the procedure (techniques and activities) they follow
