San Cristóbal Amoltepec is a municipality located to the east of Tlaxiaco and at the base of the mountain called Cerro Yucunuchi. Because the town is at an altitude of 2200 meters, it has a panoramic view to the south, as can be seen in the photograph. This town has wooded areas and fertile farmland. There are two unpaved roads leading into the town, but no regular bus service and no market day, which means that it is somewhat more isolated than Magdalena, San Agustín, and San Mateo.
Like the other towns, it has its own customs and legends. On this site three traditional stories are presented. It also has its own variant form of the language. There is a paradigm of the verb “to run” on this site that provides an example of the way in which verbs are expressed in different tenses and modes, and in both positive and negative forms. This paradigm can be compared with the paradigm of the same verb in the Magdalena variant.
