Celebrating 80 years of language development

The English version of the 2014 Update is now available online. A French translation will be posted soon.

(January 2015) SIL is pleased to announce the online publication of the 2014 SIL Annual Update. This year’s edition celebrates SIL’s 80th anniversary, honoring the organization’s roots and celebrating what has grown from those roots over the course of eight decades. The 2014 Update includes highlights from activities conducted in partnership with language communities around the globe.

The world’s ethnolinguistic communities are using their languages in new ways to meet changing needs.

In Africa, local literacy specialists translate vital information about Ebola and Deaf translators refine skills for clear, accurate sign language translation.

In Southern Asia, a multilingual preschool program offers new opportunities for learning.

In the Americas, workshop participants are ready to lead language development in their home communities.

Online at Webonary.org, 125 language communities are refining their dictionaries and moving them closer to publication.
