SIL's dedication to language development past and present
On behalf of SIL International, I express my deep appreciation to the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), Dr Robert Cooley and the rest of the members of the WEA-facilitated review panel for their diligent and careful review of our translation policies and practices regarding terms that refer to ‘God the Father’ and the ‘Son of God.’ As part of the global Church, and representing a breadth of experience and academic expertise, the panel has served SIL well through their recommendations that will help us to refine our Scripture translation practices. As we have stated since the initiation of WEA’s independent review process, SIL is fully committed to abide by the panel’s recommendations.
Together with our partners involved in Scripture translation, especially with those organizations in the Wycliffe Global Alliance, SIL International will develop a plan to implement these recommendations as soon as possible so that we can continue to demonstrate our commitment to accurate, clear and natural Scripture translation.
The news release from the World Evangelical Alliance and a link to the report from the independent panel can be found here on their website.
