SIL software demonstrated at 110th Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association (December 2011) The theme of the 110th Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association, held November 16-20 in Montreal, Canada, was “Traces, Tidemarks and Legacies,” an invitation to explore ways in which evidence of the past continues to mark the present. This year’s presentations included a demonstration of the data notebook component of SIL’s FieldWorks Language Explorer (FLEx) 7, an electronic notebook designed to streamline the process of collecting anthropological data. As SIL staff serve around the world, they partner with communities in language development efforts—such as literacy and multilingual education—and conduct linguistic and cultural research. HIV/AIDS research by SIL anthropologist featured in Global Journal of Health Science (October 2011) As rates of HIV/AIDS infection reach alarming levels in some areas, governments and humanitarian organizations around the world have devoted vast amounts of energy, resources and personnel to prevention and treatment. The efficacy of prevention efforts is the subject of an article by SIL International Anthropology Consultant David Beine, published in the October edition of the Global Journal of Health Science. The Norsk Høstfest: A Celebration of Ethnic Food and Ethnic Identity (October 2011) SIL International Publications and the International Museum of Cultures announce the release of a new book, The Norsk Høstfest: A Celebration of Ethnic Food and Ethnic Identity. This is the latest addition to the Publications in Ethnography series, which focuses on cultural studies of minority peoples in various parts of the world.
