Kelley, whose fieldwork was conducted among the Waodani (also known as Waorani) people of Ecuador, is presenting the paper, "Indigenous river naming practices: Escaping the challenges," at the 69th annual meeting of the Society for Applied Anthropology. Fifty years in Brazil—a compendium in tribute to its ethnolinguistic communities (January 2009) After fifty years of cooperation with Brazilian academic institutions and government agencies, SIL has published a book in tribute to Brazil's ethnolinguistic minorities. It presents sixteen articles that exemplify the contributions of SIL in Brazil to the fields of linguistics and related disciplines, especially applied linguistics. Role for anthropologists in HIV/AIDS crisis: Conference discussion (November 2008) Two SIL anthropologists are contributing to this year's annual meeting of the American Anthropological Association (AAA), which is being held November 19–23 in San Francisco, California. "The continuing role for anthropologists in the worldwide HIV/AIDS crisis" is the title of the High Table Session chaired by SIL anthropologist David Beine. Agta Demographic Database presented at American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting (21 November 2007) SIL International announces the release of their newest on-line publication, Agta Demographic Database: Chronicle of a Hunter-Gatherer Community in Transition. This database is the result of a fifty-year research project on the demography of the Agta, a Negrito hunter-gatherer population in the Philippines. SIL anthropologist Dr. Thomas Headland will demonstrate the database in a formal poster session at the Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association in Washington, DC, on Thursday, 29 November, which is open to the public.
