Community Involvement

SIL values joint planning and cooperation with community members and development agencies. An increasing number of SIL personnel offer significant time to the training and mentoring of local colleagues. A series of capacity building workshops are being conducted which offer supervised mentoring practice to equip community members to in turn equip others to participate more fully in language development activities.

Recently a course was offered in Manila to enable development professionals to write curriculum plans for training and mentoring courses in health and literacy. This course, Health and Development: Equipping for Community Service, taught by Dr. Stephen and Karen Lynip is an adaptation of the Teacher Training for Community Service course that SIL has offered annually since 1983.

SIL Philippines also works closely with members of The Translators Association of the Philippines (TAP) to promote development initiatives among the indigenous cultural communities.
