Bulk Edit

The Bulk Edit mode provides a powerful and yet relatively easy way of making modifications to many entries at the same time. Here are some of the ways it can be used:

The idea is to apply a filter, then deselect any entries which should be excluded from the bulk operation (or vice-versa). This way, you have fine control over which subset of entries is subject to the bulk operation you run.

Example uses:

List choice:

Filter for all lexeme forms which end in "ment". Select Target Field "Grammatical Categories" and Change To "noun". Click Preview. Uncheck any for which the change does not apply. Click Apply.

Bulk Copy:

Filter for non-blank glosses. Bulk copy glosses to reversals. Preview... Apply.

Click copy:

Filter for blank glosses. Click on a word in each definition to have it copied into the gloss field.

Process:

Write a CC table that will replace "ae" with "ä", and "oe" with "ö" (useful for German!) Select the target and destination fields (can be the same), tell FieldWorks where the CC table is via the Setup dialog, and the click Preview and, after review, Apply.

Find Replace:

Filter for verbs. Find all lexeme forms that end in "en" and replace the "en" with nothing. Preview... Apply.
