SIL FieldWorks Translation Editor
Product Overview: Translating and Checking
Vernacular Lexicon
You can select a word in the Scripture text, and then find the definition in the lexicon (dictionary) in a FieldWorks project. While you translate, you can explore senses of meaning and add words to the lexicon.
Synchronized Verse Focus
When you move the insertion point to a Scripture reference, Translation Editor causes windows in Translator's Workplace to scroll to the same Scripture reference.
Consultant and Translator Notes
To record questions, issues, and decisions that arise during the translation and checking process, translation consultants and team members can insert notes in a FieldWorks project. The notes appear in a separate window, not interleaved with the Scripture data. You can insert responses to a note, resolve the issue in a note, and show only the notes that match filter criteria.
Key Terms View
In Translation Editor, you can select the vernacular equivalents for key term instances, or verify that there is no vernacular equivalent. You can identify possible inconsistencies in translation.
Key Terms view displays the vernacular translation of key terms in three panes:
- At the left: A list of Biblical key terms in alphabetical order. Many key terms are subdivided into senses.
- At the upper right: A list of instances of the selected key term. In each Scripture reference where the key term occurs, a three-character code identifies the book.
- At the lower right: The vernacular translation.
