SIL FieldWorks Language Explorer
Last corporate release: version 2.0, released December 2007.
Integration
Integration is where the data you have entered in one program can be referenced, queried, or put to use in a different application. FieldWorks applications promise new levels of integration that will let you leverage your effort in one area while working in another.
FieldWorks Language Explorer currently provides several points of integration with other FieldWorks applications, and many more are planned.
Interlinearize text entered in FieldWorks Translation Editor
In addition to adding texts to the Language Explorer Texts area by typing or pasting, in version 2.0 you can also select sections of text entered in Translation Editor. This is available in the Insert menu and on the toolbar. The added texts are then available for interlinearization, concordance and other text functions within Language Explorer.
View definition of a word from the FieldWorks Translation Editor
In Translation Editor, position the cursor in a word in the draft translation. Use Tools...Find in Dictionary. The dictionary entry of the corresponding lexeme will be displayed if it has been stored in the Language Explorer Lexicon.
Jump to a lexical entry from FieldWorks Translation Editor
When a dictionary entry is being displayed in Translation Editor (see screenshot above), you can use the "Open lexicon" button to launch Language Explorer to view or edit the complete lexical entry. Language Explorer opens displaying the relevant entry in an editable view.
Find related words from FieldWorks Translation Editor
If your lexical entries have been assigned semantic domains, Language Explorer is able to construct a sort of thesaurus which can be useful during translation. In Translation Editor, position the cursor in a word in the draft translation. Use Tools...Find Related Words. All lexical entries which are in the same semantic domain(s) as the lexical entry which corresponds to the current word are displayed.

You can view the dictionary entry of each related word listed. To do this, click on a related word. The Lookup button finds the related words for the selected word ('Tag' above).
Paste hyperlinks
FieldWorks Language Explorer allows you to make a hyperlink of any view that you are looking at, and then paste that hyperlink into any application that supports hyperlinks, such as Microsoft Word or FieldWorks Data Notebook. Clicking on the hyperlink will then bring up FieldWorks Language Explorer displaying that same data and view.
Making the hyperlink:

We can then create a hyperlink in Microsoft Word which, when clicked, will run Language Explorer and take us back to this entry.
