UNESCO-designated International Mother Language Day 2006 Theme: Languages and Cyberspace (FEBRUARY 2006) The theme of this year’s International Mother Language Day is “Languages and Cyberspace.” Lack of access to computer technology hinders some minority language groups from communicating with the global community. Speakers of unwritten languages—as well as those with scripts not yet available on computers—also have limited worldwide connections. Fifty Years of Partnership in the Philippines (May 20, 2003) The first SIL linguists arrived in the Philippines 50 years ago at the invitation of a man for whom one of the most prestigious awards in Asia would later be named.
