Multilingualism presentation at E-9 summit in Nigeria (June 2010) UNESCO and the Government of Nigeria organized the Eighth E-9 Ministerial Review Meeting on Literacy for Development, which was held 21–24 June in Abuja, Nigeria. The theme of the meeting, “Literacy for Development,” focused on how to cut adult illiteracy rates in half by 2015, particularly among girls and women. SIL joins observance of International Mother Language Day 2010 (February 2010) During the eleventh annual observance of International Mother Language Day, SIL representatives participated in celebrations in the Philippines, at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC and at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. International Mother Language Day provides an opportunity to recognize linguistic diversity and the importance of multilingual education. Haiti earthquake response (January 2010) Executive Director Freddy Boswell and President John Watters express their grief and concern on behalf of SIL International over the loss of life and the devastating injuries suffered by the people of Haiti.
