Editing style refers here to editing the mechanical aspects of literacy materials. This requires close attention to the smallest details.

Things to do
  Here are the things to do when you edit the mechanical style of literacy materials:
 
  • Check carefully for accuracy and consistency in the following areas:
    • Capitalization
    • Grammar
    • Punctuation
    • Spelling
  • Check to see that pages are all present and in the proper order.
  • Check to see that page numbers are in the proper order and located correctly on the pages.
  • Check overall format:
    • The size of the book or item is acceptable.
    • Any colors used are acceptable.
    • Margins are neat and appropriate.
    • Text is attractive and easy to read, with plenty of white space.
    • Illustrations are

      • clear
      • properly placed on the page and in relation to the text, and
      • an appropriate size for the space available.
    • Charts, drills, and exercises are properly placed and easy to follow.
    • Font or print is the appropriate size and type.
