How to correct a mimeograph stencil

Introduction

Correcting mistakes on a mimeograph stencil is not difficult if you do it immediately. Careful corrections on a mimeograph stencil will not be noticed on the printed copies.

Materials

Here are the materials needed to correct a mimeograph stencil:

Guidelines

Here are some guidelines to follow when you correct a mimeograph stencil:

  • Slightly flatten wax around an error by carefully rubbing over it with something firm and smooth like the rounded end of a paper clip. Apply enough stencil correction fluid to fill in the error and to rewax the stencil.

    Tips:
    • Correct one letter at a time, using only one upward stroke.

    • Be careful that correction fluid doesn't seep through the stencil and stick to anything underneath.
    • Keep the stencil from touching anything under it by inserting a pencil or something between the stencil and the surface.

  • Use masking tape to cover major mistakes

    Caution:

You cannot make further corrections through the tape, though, and this area will be unusable.
