Doing preliminary research and planning for a literacy program

This module assumes you are working where there are significant linguistic issues to deal with before you begin a literacy program. If this is not the case, you can skip the modules that deal with language-based problems.

• Do any needed language research .
• Develop and test an orthography if needed.
• Do any needed work in language development .

• Gather baseline data on literacy.
• Consult and meet with local community leaders about a possible literacy program.
