Bernd, Don. 1989. "A book is to read and to share." Notes on Literacy. Interest level: general.

Taught 36 students to develop a shoe box library during an editing course. In Colombia, books were not normally loaned out, so this was a new idea to them.

Includes how to

• classify books
• take a trip to a local library
• care for books, and
• check out books easily.

Course was a success, and yet there were some areas that could be improved. Idea of a community library served to promote reading and use of literature.
