Summary
	About 4,200 people speak the Weri language.
	Designed a literacy program to transition from Tok Pisin and Kate to Weri. Chose this program because a high percentage of people knew the languages, including 50 percent of young, literate adults under 40 years old. Describes organization of classes and teacher training prior to 1968 and from 1973 to 1978. Made changes in the program in 1978. Over 350 people completed the new program "with surprisingly good results, the main reason being the enthusiasm of the instructors."
