Summary
 

"Literacy may be understood as an equilibrium between the achievement of the person and the demands of the context in which the person is situated." (Africans are not preliterate if their environment is a nonwritten one.) If a person is not literate in their environment, they should seek a different environment. Guthrie is for "realism." Is a research report.
