Stage 1 guidelines for writing: Appropriate varieties

Objective

Here is an objective for learning appropriate varieties in Stage 1 for writing:

To learn the standard written form of the language. Learn formal or official vocabulary you need to use on official papers, such as residence permits or work permits.

Strategy

Here is a strategy for learning appropriate varieties for writing in Stage 1 :

  • Ask for help

When actually filling out anything formal, such as government forms, applications for a job or to open a bank account, get an educated mother-tongue writer to check your writing. It may be that the way you form the letters is hard to read, or that you have made some important mistake. Pay attention to the corrections you get and recopy or try again until your friend, tutor, or teacher is satisfied.
