  • To use language to accomplish straightforward social functions
  • To use language to find out more about the language and culture
Strategies
 

Here are some functions strategies for Stage 2 guidelines for speaking:

 
  • Review

    Review insights gained through listening and reading and try to incorporate them into your speech.

  • Analysis

    Analyze the scripts of social situations of everyday life and how people use language to accomplish their purposes. Try to determine what the real communicative purpose is behind what people say.

  • Practice

    Use role-play techniques to practice communicative purposes in different social situations.

  • Ask for correction

    Convince a language associate or other friends in the society that you really want to be corrected if you act inappropriately in a social situation. Ask them to let you know if what you say communicates something other than what they think you intended.
