Stage 3 guidelines for speaking: Interactional skills

 

Objectives
 

Here are some interactional skills objectives for Stage 3 for speaking:

 
  • To internalize scripts for common everyday social situations to use, including society rules for how people should interact in these situations
  • To use appropriate gestures, eye contact, personal space, and body language to go with each script
Strategies
 

Here are some interactional skills strategies for Stage 3 guidelines for speaking:

 
  • Review

    Review insights gained through listening and reading and incorporate them into your speech.

  • Analysis

    Analyze social situations of everyday life and how people act in them. Identify typical scripts. Identify variations of scripts based on differences in social relationships among participants.

  • Practice

    Use role-play techniques to practice playing appropriate roles in different social situations. Rehearse for real situations.

  • Asking for correction

    Convince a language associate (LA) or other friends in the society that you really want to be corrected if you act inappropriately in a social situation.
