• Your discourse objectives for Stage 1 are limited, since you probably can only use single words or memorized sentences. You can aim toward using connectors between parts of a sentence correctly and using the correct pronouns to refer to people or things already mentioned.

• Analysis

  Look at the pronoun system and conjunctions in the language. Make hypotheses about how they work.

• Practice

  Learn to say simple sentences and practice linking them correctly.

• Selective attention

  Pay attention to conjunctions and pronouns in sentences you memorize for survival purposes.
