  • Analysis

    Keep a list of communication functions you want to be able to perform and the sentences you can use to express them. Ask a language associate (LA) or teacher for different ways to express these functions as you progress.

  • Practice

    Imagine yourself in a context where you would say the sentences you are practicing, or do role play so that the words and sentences you say are in a meaningful context.

  • Rehearsal

    Before you go out to the community for real-life communication situations, rehearse what you want to say and what you expect to hear in reply.

  • Ask for help

    Ask the LA explicitly to correct you if you say something awkward or impolite.
