Preparing camera-ready copy

Introduction

You need to prepare camera-ready copy

  • if you are duplicating documents by photocopying, or
  • if the printer will make plates or print directly from the copy you provide.
Things to do
Here are the things to do when you prepare camera-ready copy:

  • Make very clear, dark lines and text by using
    • a pen with dark black ink
    • a black felt tip pen
    • a laser printer, or
    • a typewriter or dot matrix printer with a new ribbon.
  • Use photographs with good color contrast.
  • Use clean illustrations with good contrast.
  • Clean up any marks or smudges with correction fluid.
  • Eliminate paste-up lines on photocopies by making one photocopy and using correction fluid on the unwanted lines. Then copy from that copy.
    Caution:

The copy may not be as sharp as the original.

  • Use a light blue pencil for any layout marks you write on the original.
    Note:

The camera that reproduces the image on a plate for the offset press is not sensitive to light blue. The marks will not show.
