Summary

This manual is a compilation of lectures, notes, and articles by Dr. Sarah Gudschinsky on a wide range of literacy topics. It presents what later became known as the “Gudschinsky method.” It addresses literacy concerns in general as well as specifics on the teaching of reading, primer construction, training, running literacy classes, and dealing with orthography, dialect, and other problems associated with literacy. For those who are working among preliterate people in developing nations or who are interested in the Gudschinsky method, it is a foundational guide to bringing preliterate people to a worthwhile degree of literacy.

The book is no longer in print.
