  • To help readers understand the phenomenon of critical thinking. To describe essential components. To provide examples of how to observe it in people's actions. To set out the research and conceptual base for activity.
  • To examine various methods, techniques, and approaches to use by anyone seeking to help people develop better critical thinking skills. To provide various case studies of successful practice and outlines specific exercises to foster critical thinking.
  • To explore the opportunities for people to become critical thinkers in four specific arenas central to most adults' lives: intimate relationships, the workplace, political involvements, and mass media that influences world perceptions (preface).
