Dye, Sally F. 1988. "New literates reading aloud for audience comprehension: The Bahinemo case." Notes on Literacy. Interest level: specialist.
| Summary | |
|
Reading aloud is critical in some cultural situations. However, some societies see literacy as a threat to their culture, and some do not expect reading a text aloud will have any meaning. A new method for audience comprehension in low-interest areas is needed. In early lessons, it is necessary to teach reading from period to period, without pausing, to begin good habits for reader and audience comprehension. Orthography reform may be necessary for clear recognition of material.
