Summary
 

Describes characteristic discourse features and tense aspect of folk narratives in the language of the Dan people of Côte d'Ivoire, also extending into Liberia, and probably Guinea.

 

First part gives short outline of the discourse structure. Narratives are divided into introduction, body, and coda. Gives background information necessary to understand Dan tense aspect. Lengthy second part explains three positive tense aspects (independent, aorist, and bound) and two negative tense aspects (punctiliar and continuative).
