What is italic?

Italic is a type style in which characters slant upward to the right. Italic is used in text to emphasize words, to indicate foreign words, and to set off book titles.

Here is an example of italic text:

• abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
