534r: Care and repair of musical instruments

Description

In many cultures instruments are made for certain ceremonies or festivals and then jettisoned.

Where instruments are kept for longer periods, note how they are preserved or repaired.

Also note what accommodations are made to incorporate new technology such as the following:

  • PVC pipe used for end-blown flutes instead of bark
  • Tar used for cementing on resonators instead of insect excrement
  • Large PVC pipe used as resonators instead of gourds which crack easily
