What is cultural research?

Definition

Cultural research is a planned, informed process of investigation into any aspect of the shared way of life of a people or social group.

Such research is the foundation for all of the other tasks done by the field worker. It is the basis for making progress in personal adjustment, language learning, linguistic analysis, literacy and translation.

Data can be collected and recorded in a variety of ways, but the foundational tool for cultural research is a data notebook. A computer based notebook may be created in a number of ways, including the use of Shoebox or a word processing program.
