534c2: Lute (plucked)

Description

All lutes have a resonating belly (soundbox) and a neck. One or more strings are stretched between a soundbox and a straight neck. The strings run from near the base of the soundbox along the full length of the neck. The strings are plucked.

Lutes are found in many different shapes and sizes. Important differences between lutes include the relative length of the body and neck, the shape of the back, the number of strings, whether there are frets, and material used for body, soundbox, and neck.

Examples:

Mandolins, guitars, and ukuleles
