There may be more than one music system in operation in a given culture.

  Music systems in use
  1. What music systems are used in the area (for example, local traditional, music from a neighboring society, special church music, Western influenced, national pop music, and so forth)?
  2. In what contexts (domains) are the different music systems used (for example, religious rituals, entertainment, recreation, church, work, home, children's games, and so forth)?
  3. To what extent are people in the culture polymusical (that is, how much can they participate in different music systems)?
  4. Which music system(s) are used in local churches?
  5. Which styles are, or could be, used to compose new Christian hymns?
