Stage 3 guidelines for reading: Orthography

 

Objectives
 

Here are some orthography objectives for Stage 3 for reading:

 

    To continue expanding your recognition of characters representing words you can understand, if in a character system

  • To recognize archaic orthographies or spelling systems, if in an alphabetic or syllabary system
  • To no longer be consciously aware of deciphering orthography
  • To read at normal speed
Strategies
 

Here are some orthography strategies for Stage 3 guidelines for reading:

 
  • Memorization and association

    Set yourself a goal of learning a certain number of related characters every day, if learning a pictograph system.

  • Exposure to older texts

    Expand the kind of texts you read to include texts written in earlier periods.
