Example: How to determine the number of pages in a center-bound book

Steps
Follow these steps to determine the number of pages in a center-bound book:

  1. Add together all text and illustration pages and all front and back matter pages. This gives you the number of pages you will need for the book you are making.

Results: For this example, assume that you have 10 pages with text or illustrations.

  2. If the number is not divisible by 4, add enough blank pages to make the number divisible by 4.

Results: 10 is not evenly divisible by 4, so you add 2 to make 12.

  3. Determine how many pieces of paper the book will be printed on by dividing the number of pages by 4.

Results: This book will require 3 pieces of paper.
