Example: How to paginate a 16-page book

Steps
Follow these steps to use the pagination diagram system:

  1. Determine the number of pages the book will have.
  2. Draw a diagram of the pages, both front and back.
  3. Number the pages down the line in a zigzag fashion and then back up the line in a reverse zigzag fashion.
  4. Write the names of special pages ( front and back matter ) on the diagram. These pages may not have page numbers in the finished book, but accounting for them on the diagram will help you to visualize the correct pagination.
  5. Adjust the page numbers if you plan to start numbering, for example, on the first page of text, after the front and back matter pages.
  6. Now use this drawing to see in what order the pages should be laid out and which ones go back to back.
