How to lay out printed materials using handwritten text

Introduction

You may want to make printed materials with handwritten text when

  • typewriters or computers are not available, or
  • people who do not type are making the materials.

Tip:

You could use text that has already been typed or printed if it fits on the size of paper that the you are using. To use preprinted text:

See: How to lay out printed materials using typewritten text.

Steps
Follow these steps to lay out printed materials using handwritten text:

  1. Decide what margins you need.
  2. Decide where to place page numbers and lesson numbers if you need them.
  3. Decide where you will put illustrations within the text.
  4. Prepare a layout guide
    Tips:
    • Include lines across the guide to indicate where to write each line of text.
    • Plan carefully how much space to leave between lines of text.
    • Measure so that the lines are spaced evenly on the layout guide.

  5. Print or write the text carefully.
    Tip:

Leave a space of at least two letters between words.

  6. Draw or paste on the illustrations.
