How to play the “I am going on a trip” game

Introduction

“I am going on a trip” is a literacy game useful to develop language awareness. It uses a form of alliteration to help players focus on the initial sounds of words.

Steps
Follow these steps to play the “I am going on a trip” game:

  1. Have one person start by saying (or perhaps singing) that they are going on a trip to a particular place. They will take with them some object that starts with the same letter as the place.
    Example:

I am going to Paris and I am taking a poodle.

  2. Have the other players take turns adding to the list of objects being taken by thinking of something else that starts with that letter.
    Example:

I am going to Paris and I am taking a poodle and a pen.

  3. Continue the game until someone is unable to think of a word or makes a mistake.

Results: That person then drops out of the game.

  4. Continue until only one person is left after everyone else has dropped out.

Results: That person is the winner.
