How to set priorities for the training curriculum

Introduction

Most adult literacy programs give inadequate time and attention to training because of the constraints of time, motivation, and finances.

Therefore, the planner and the trainer must regularly decide what training is

  • absolutely necessary
  • highly desirable, or
  • a luxury.
Prerequisites

Here are the prerequisites for how to set priorities for the training curriculum:

Planning a training program

Steps
Follow these steps to set priorities for the training activity curriculum:

  1. List all the topics related to the training goals and objectives.
  2. From that list, determine which topics the trainees must master in order to function in their roles.
  3. Mark these topics with number 1 to indicate they are a high priority.
  4. From the remaining list, determine which topics the trainees should master in order to strengthen their level of expertise in their role.
  5. Mark these topics with number 2 to indicate they are a lower priority.
  6. Mark all remaining topics with number 3 to indicate they are the lowest priority.
