Whole language reading readiness refers to the learner's growing knowledge about print. These skills are naturally learned as the learner is exposed to print and writing.

During these times teachers assist learners in building the necessary concepts about print and about reading which are needed. All reading readiness activities are embedded in and part of “real” reading activities.
