Overview of the Literacy bookshelf

Introduction

The Literacy bookshelf is an extensive body of materials. It is designed to provide you with reference materials as well as step-by-step guides for doing work in adult literacy.

Although much of this material is general in nature, the Literacy bookshelf is designed specifically for those doing literacy work in developing countries.

Types of resources

The Literacy bookshelf contains different types of resources to help you meet your goals:

  • Books of modules on how to perform basic literacy tasks
  • Books of reference modules providing information to help you perform these tasks
  • Online books, articles, and course outlines about literacy and related topics
  • Interactive tools and demos to help you develop literacy materials
  • Expert systems to help you identify and develop appropriate literacy and instructional programs
  • Worksheets, information, and samples you can print out and copy for your own use
  • A glossary of terms used in the modules
  • An extensive bibliography
  • A combined index of all bookshelves to help you find other information related to the author, subject, or titles in which you are interested
