Costing a literacy program

Introduction

In determining the costs of a literacy program, you must consider many factors. This group of modules gives you guidance for costing a fairly exhaustive list of components of a literacy program. It includes lists of cost factors for you to consider..

Some cost factors are affected greatly by a large number of variables. In these cases, some of the variables are identified and discussed.

The information is intended to be suggestive of the variety and scope of cost factors you need to consider, and to help you not overlook important cost factors in your planning.

The information is as typical and inclusive as possible. For that reason, some of it may not apply to your program. You should select the components that are relevant to your literacy program and ignore the others. Also, there is some overlap in the categories. Choose those that fit best with your program plan.

Guidelines

Here are some guidelines to follow when you determine costs of a literacy program:

  • Account for all cost factors that apply.
  • Attach a specific estimate of cost to each factor.
