Costing contingencies

Introduction

Most programs have costs that could not have been anticipated in planning. To cover such costs you should include an amount for contingencies in your program estimate.

Some donors allow a maximum percentage for program contingencies.

Others prefer to see no contingencies item at all, preferring that line items be made generous enough to cover contingencies.

  • Consult with your entity administration or, if necessary, with the potential donor to get information on the handling of program contingencies.
