Costing other administrative overhead

Introduction

Many donors recognize that large organizations handle administrative costs by adding a certain percentage to a program to cover administrative overhead. This is because, in a large and complex organization, it is difficult to provide a precise accounting of every expense related to a program.

Thing to do
Here is the thing to do when you cost other administrative overhead:

  • Inquire of your entity administration or of the prospective donor what their policy is on general administrative overhead.

This factor, whatever it is, is usually applied to the cost of the program after all other cost factors have been calculated.
