Costing storage, distribution and marketing of materials

Things to do
Here are the things to do when you cost storage, distribution and marketing of materials:

Storage

  • Determine what all will need to be stored.
  • Get prices on the needed storage space whether it is to be rented, leased, purchased, or built.
  • If storage containers will be needed or be used, estimate the cost of acquiring such containers.
  • If any special preservatives will be needed, include these costs.
  • Estimate regular additional costs of storage such as insurance, security, and utilities.

Distribution

  • Get estimates for the shipping of books and supplies to the needed locations.
  • Estimate the cost of on-site storage.

Marketing

  • Estimate advertising and promotional expenses.
  • Estimate the cost of any colportage.
  • If materials are to be sold below cost, be sure to budget for the net cost.
